Job DescriptionBlue Ridge Community College (BRCC) seeks a full-time Aviation Maintenance Technology Teaching Faculty member. This is a full‑time, 9‑month or 12‑month, 24‑pay teaching faculty position with full state benefits. 9‑month start date is August 2026; 12‑month start date is May 2026.
- Teach a full load of courses (including labs) during the academic year. Courses may be offered in person, hybrid, or online depending on program needs.
- Participate in program instructional evaluation and improvement.
- Ensure safe practices are followed in labs, with tool usage and the handling of hazardous materials.
- Assist in the development of student laboratory projects.
- Maintain FAA compliant records and documentation.
- Provide student advising and career guidance.
- Participate in annual performance objectives process.
- Support BRCC mission, vision and values.
- Keep current on BRCC policy and procedures.
- Communicate and hold posted student engagement hours.
- Comply with administrative deadlines.
- Participate in BRCC governance, accreditation, and assessment.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships.
- Participate in advisory council meetings.
- Attend professional conferences or meetings.
- Participate in business/industrial activities of discipline.
- Make presentation to organizations.
- Revise or develop new curricula or courses.
- Continue education in discipline as needed.
- Strive to acquire continued education within the industry.
- Maintain, upgrade, and develop laboratory equipment.
- Upkeep and upgrade laboratory as needed.
- Participate in AMT program meetings and projects to include, but not limited to:
- Student data gathering and analysis
- Assessment data gathering and analysis.
- Accreditation data gathering and reports.
- Program needs assessment, justification and reporting.
- Program advocacy, internal and external.
- Provide service to:
- BRCC
- AMT Department
- Community partners
Candidates selected for interview will be required to facilitate a teaching demonstration as part of the interview process.
Minimum Qualifications- A&P Airframe and Power Plant Certificate
- Two years field experience
- Familiarity or willing to be trained on hardware, programs (e.g. word processor, spreadsheet, database), and internet resources to the field and education
- Competence with hardware, tools and equipment common to the field
- Ability to teach students effectively and create lesson plans
- Passion for the field of Aviation Maintenance and for teaching
- Possess strong interpersonal, communication, organization and cooperation skills
- Committed to professional growth and development, continued learning, integration of new technology and current pedagogy
- Ability to use creativity, innovation, and compassion to instruct and engage students
- Ability to teach a diverse student population
- Additional relevant training/education in Aeronautical Science, Aviation Maintenance Tech
- Teaching experience at the post‑secondary level
- Significant full time equivalent aviation maintenance or aircraft engineering technology or industry experience
- Relevant Airline/Air Carrier maintenance experience
- Capability to utilize a learning management system to facilitate distance delivery, both synchronous and asynchronous
- Inspection Authorization and/or other FAA certifications or designations
- Familiarity with curriculum development and knowledge of FAR 147 curriculum requirements
- Specialized field experience or education, such as NDI, composites, electronics, structural repair, etc.
- Evidence indicating successful partnership skills and experience maintaining partnerships with commercial, private and public agencies and organizations, including advisory boards
- Evidence of professional scholarly activities, including involvement in professional organizations, grant writing, and/or publications
- Familiarity with accreditation procedures and national standards for the discipline
- Familiarity with the aviation education considerations and needs in the Commonwealth and beyond
- Experience leading or working in a diversified workforce in a multi‑cultural setting
- Evidence supporting a commitment to and the ability to work effectively within the scope of BRCC mission
