Workforce Adjunct – Electrical Instructor
General Description:
NOVA Workforce adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline/field of study to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Teaching may include a variety of formats: face‑to‑face, remote, and online. The teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct contract contains no guarantee of continued employment.
- Provide hands‑on, guided, differentiated instruction to students enrolled in courses as specified in the schedule and course contract.
- Prepare course materials and lesson plans.
- Conduct efficient and effective classroom management.
- Provide students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the institution, assignments and deliverables, timelines, and evaluation criteria.
- Use the institution’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments, and other materials and to communicate with students, in a timely manner.
- Deliver course content using a variety of teaching styles and provide interesting and engaging assignments that demonstrate the real‑world applications of concepts covered.
- Maintain records of enrollment and attendance, assessments and grades, and submit class rosters and grade sheets by the deadlines established by the department.
- Maintain a hazard‑free environment and practice safety in labs or classroom.
- Adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with college and departmental policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts.
- Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) standards, code compliance, and local electrical regulations related to installation, grounding, and protection.
- Ability to read, interpret, and explain electrical blueprints, wiring diagrams, and one‑line schematics.
- Understanding of OSHA 10/30 safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and PPE requirements specific to electrical environments.
- Skill in demonstrating electrical techniques safely, including wiring, conduit bending, and circuit assembly.
- Ability to teach hands‑on technical content clearly and effectively to diverse learners.
- Strong problem‑solving skills for identifying and correcting mechanical and electrical faults.
- Skill in aligning instructional content with industry standards and certification requirements.
- In‑depth familiarity with conductors, transformers, motors, panels, breakers, and control systems.
- Ability to uphold institutional standards and positively represent NOVA Workforce in all instructional and industry settings.
- Prior teaching or training experience in the subject field/industry or evidence of teaching potential.
- Practical working experience in the subject field/industry and related industries.
- Combination of education and industry credentials to demonstrate content expertise applicable to the course being taught.
- Familiarity with subject‑area certification processes, guidelines, and procedures.
- Working knowledge of computer applications and the ability to use computers for providing class presentation.
- Experience teaching “boot‑camp” style training courses.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment.
- Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency.
- Experience working with adult learners.
Employees must reside in Virginia, Maryland or the District of Columbia.
Telework is not eligible; the position requires in‑person attendance.
