Workforce Adjunct – Construction Pathway

NOVA Workforce is seeking instructors in one or more of the following areas:
General construction, Blueprint reading, Construction mathematics, Electrical basics, Carpentry basics, HVAC basics, Welding basics. Courses are delivered in a synchronous format in‑person. Adjunct postings are pool postings; teaching load is based upon student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct faculty appointment contains no guarantee of continued employment.

General Description

NOVA Workforce Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline/field of study to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Teaching may include a variety of formats: face‑to‑face, remote, and online. Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct faculty contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.

Duties

and Tasks
  • Provide hands‑on, guided, differentiated instruction to students enrolled in the courses, as specified in the schedule and course contract.
  • Prepare course materials and lesson plans.
  • Conduct efficient and effective classroom management.
  • Provide students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies, assignments and deliverables, timelines, and evaluation criteria.
  • Use the institution’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments, and other materials and to communicate with students in a timely manner.
  • Deliver course content using a variety of teaching styles and provide engaging assignments that demonstrate real‑world applications of concepts covered.
  • Maintain records of enrollment and attendance, assessments and grades, and submit class rosters and grade sheets by the deadlines established by the department.
  • Maintain a hazard‑free environment and practice safety in lab(s) or classroom.
  • Adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with college and departmental policies, procedures, and regulations.
Essential Functions

As part of the primary responsibility to provide quality instruction, the College expects each faculty member to meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts; and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations.

  • Working knowledge of computer applications and the ability to use computer for providing class presentation.
  • Ability to communicate complex subjects in a clear and engaging way.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population.
  • Ability to use a wide variety of teaching methods to promote learning.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Prior teaching or training experience in the subject field/industry or demonstration of teaching potential.
  • Practical working experience in the subject field/industry and related industries.
  • Combination of education and industry credentials to demonstrate content expertise applicable to the course being taught.
  • Familiarity with subject area certification processes, guidelines, and procedures.
Additional Considerations
  • Practical working experience in the subject field/industry and related industries.
  • Some experience teaching “boot camp” style training courses.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Some experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency.
