Middle School Special Education Para educatorSpotsylvania County Public Schools is seeking student-focused Special Education Paraeducators to assist teachers and other professional practitioners by providing instructional support in self-contained classrooms.
Essential Job Functions- Assist students with the organization and completion of daily work assignments
- Assist in maintaining a safe, nurturing, and healthy atmosphere, which may include assisting students with social skill development, personal hygiene, and toiletry needs/toilet training
- Follow established procedures for monitoring and redirecting student behavior when supervising small groups
- Maintain and organize students’ instructional materials and/or cumulative files
- Administer and/or assist with preparing for various assessments for students as necessary
- Use special skills (e.g., sign language, transliterating, advanced computer training) to assist in two-way communication between the teacher and the student as necessary
- Perform additional non-instructional duties including, but not limited to, cafeteria duty, bus duty, hall duty, and office duty
- High School Diploma or GED
- A minimum of two (2) years working with students within an instructional, educational or related setting
- Special education teachers assigned to work with students with emotional disabilities should have been trained in MANDT methodology and should receive additional training, as appropriate, annually.

Employment TermsEmployment may be offered as a 10‑Month (185 Day) contract, at a minimum of 7.5 hours worked per day. This position is evaluated annually. Additional compensation awarded for credits earned toward advanced degrees.
