Adjunct Math Faculty (Part-Time) - Pre Calculus I
We are seeking a qualified instructor to teach MTH 161:
Pre Calculus I, a Passport and UCGS transfer course that introduces foundational mathematical functions and systems. The role supports SVCC’s mission to provide high‑quality education to the Southside Virginia community.
- Teach concepts such as relations and functions, polynomial and rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, and systems of equations.
- Develop and maintain high‑quality course materials aligned with college standards and learning outcomes.
- Engage students through the college’s Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
- Monitor and document class attendance in compliance with college policies, maintaining accurate records and communicating with students and necessary departments to support academic success.
- Assist the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor, and perform other duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Mathematics from a regionally accredited institution.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to write syllabi and exams.
- Ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments.
- Ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.
- Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the community college and student success.
- Teaching experience at the college level, specifically with face‑to‑face and online/hybrid modalities.
- Competency using instructional technologies such as SMART boards, Zoom, and the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
- Experience working with community college students.
- Demonstrated commitment to student engagement and academic success.
