Foundations of Education. This course explores the foundational topics related to education, emphasizing the historical, philosophical, social, legal, ethical, and professional aspects of teaching. Successful candidates must be committed to SVCC’s mission to provide high-quality education to the Southside Virginia community. Applications will be received, reviewed, and considered continuously until needed positions are filled.
Specific Duties
- Explore foundational topics related to the field of education.
- Emphasize the historical, philosophical, and social dimensions of the teaching profession.
- Instruct on the legal, ethical, and professional responsibilities inherent in teaching.
- Work with the practicum coordinator, ensuring students complete a minimum of 20 hours of observation in a K‑12 setting.
- Deliver instruction in a hybrid format, ensuring high‑quality course materials align with college standards.
- Maintain engagement through the college’s Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) for the online portion of the course.
- Monitor and document class attendance in compliance with college policies, maintaining accurate records and communicating with students and necessary departments as needed to support academic success.
- Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Education or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal communication skills; ability to write syllabi and exams.
- Ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments.
- Ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.
- Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the community college and student success.
- Teaching experience at the college level, specifically with face‑to‑face and online/hybrid modalities.
- Competency using instructional technologies such as SMART boards, Zoom and Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
- Experience working with community college students.
- Demonstrated commitment to student engagement and academic success.
