    Flexibility to work within the hours of the Tutoring Center—Monday through Thursday: 9:00am to 7:00pm, Friday: 9:00am to 2:00pm. Part‑time, non‑benefitted, averaging 29 hours or less per week.

Institution Overview: Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is a nonresidential two‑year institution of higher education serving Central Virginia, including the City of Charlottesville and surrounding counties. The PVCC campus is located in Albemarle County, Virginia, with additional locations at the Eugene Giuseppe Center, Jefferson School Center, and regional high‑school sites.

Title: Tutor and/or Embedded Tutor

Department: Academic Affairs—Tutoring Center

Purpose

Tutors help students improve academic performance and achieve educational goals. They offer guidance and support in one or more subject areas: mathematics, biological sciences, business, physical sciences, and technologies. Tutor responsibilities include developing study skills, time‑management strategies, and other techniques that contribute to academic success. Embedded tutors support specific courses (e.g., Math 154, Math 161) during the class period to assist students both inside and outside the classroom.

Tutors may work with students individually or in groups, customizing support to meet unique needs. Responsibilities typically include helping students comprehend complex concepts, offering guidance on assignments, projects, and homework, fostering confidence, and assisting with task prioritization, exam preparation, and goal setting. Tutors will complete training and engage in ongoing professional development.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform additional duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government during an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Qualifications (KSA's/Required)

A passion for assisting others; excellent communication and active listening skills; ability to maintain confidentiality; willingness to work with diverse populations; sense of responsibility, dependability, honesty, and maturity; outstanding academic achievement in the subject area(s) to be tutored.
