Job DutiesTo provide effective Career and Technical instruction in the assigned trade area; to assist assigned students to complete the required competencies for that trade area; demonstrate effective classroom or lab management; ensure that the lab is operated in compliance with all aspect of safety management; and to maintain accurate and current students records for the assigned student. This is an hourly position.

Demonstrated ability to engage students in one‑on‑one teaching and work with students and inmate aides in a classroom/lab environment. - Maintain accurate records

:
Knowledge and experience of policy and procedure governing adult education; must possess working knowledge of basic adult education field, adult literacy, and computer software appropriate for program needs. - Maintain classroom and inventory

Experience in maintaining classroom, equipment, and inventories. - Trade licensure
:
Demonstrate competency in the related field of current trade licensure. - Education

High School Diploma or equivalent. - Experience

Must have at least two years’ full time or 2000 hours of verifiable experience in the last 5 years in the relevant field/trade area for a teaching certificate. - License

Must be eligible for the ‘Master Barber Technical Professional License’ issued by Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) and ‘Barber’s license/certification’ or a ‘Technical Professional License’ in the related trade area/field issued by Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR). Must be eligible for a teaching certificate by the Department of Education. - Provisional license submission

If you do not currently hold a teachers/trade license from the Department of Education (DOE), you must submit all documentation for your provisional license to the licensure designee for Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) during the first 90 days of employment. Obtaining a provisional license within the 1‑year probationary period is employee’s responsibility and is required to continuing employment at the Department of Corrections (DOC).

Successful candidates are responsible for any renewal points to maintain a teaching license under the guidelines of Virginia Department of Education to comply with the requirements for continued employment in this position. If seeking reciprocity from another state, candidates must submit all documentation for a Virginia Teaching License within 90 days of employment and satisfy all requirements within a year.

Must have a Teaching certificate by the Department of Education. - Knowledge of all phases of the trade area; ability to supervise adult in‑mates in a classroom/lab environment in a correctional facility.
- Knowledge and experience in correctional education classroom management; the ability to facilitate other instructors; knowledge of the Department of Corrections (DOC) institutional policies and procedures and policies governing correctional education.
- Wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12 month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12‑month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.
