Natural Sciences Adjunct Faculty – Part‑time teaching position at Southside Virginia Community College.
Responsibilities- Instructional Delivery: Plan, organize, and teach courses using approved syllabi, student learning outcomes, and current best practices in pedagogy. Maintain a positive classroom or virtual climate conducive to student learning.
- Laboratory Supervision: Lead hands‑on lab experiments, strictly maintain laboratory safety protocols, guide students through scientific data collection, and foster critical scientific inquiry.
- Technology Integration: Competently utilize instructional technologies, including the college’s Learning Management System (Canvas), for grading, course announcements, and virtual teaching components.
- Evaluation & Feedback: Review, grade, and return student assignments, laboratory reports, and exams in a timely manner. Provide regular academic feedback to assist student growth.

Hours:
Be accessible to students for brief academic guidance, questions, or clarification before/after face‑to‑face sessions or via scheduled virtual office hours. - Administrative Compliance: Follow academic policies outlined in the SVCC Adjunct Faculty Handbook, submit final course grades by college deadlines, and report student enrollment or attendance issues as required.
- Education:
Master’s degree in Biology (or related biomedical science field) with at least 18 graduate credit hours in the specialty science for Biology, A&P, and Microbiology; or Master’s degree in Chemistry or related chemical science field with 18 graduate credit hours in pure chemistry; or Master’s degree in Physics or related physical science/engineering field with 18 graduate credit hours in pure physics. - Demonstrated teaching competence and strong oral and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal communication skills; ability to write syllabi and exams.
- Ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments.
- Ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.
- Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the community college and student success.
- Ability to implement current pedagogical strategies and technical learning platforms effectively.
- Previous science teaching experience at the community college or university level, specifically with face‑to‑face and online/hybrid modalities.
- Demonstrated experience developing or teaching fully online, asynchronous laboratory courses.
- Competency using instructional technologies such as SMART boards, Zoom, and Canvas LMS.
- Demonstrated commitment to student engagement and academic success.
