SummaryThe Reading Tutor works with students in grades K‑4 in small groups of five or fewer who have been identified as needing additional support in early literacy. The Reading Tutor works side by side with the Reading Team to help students improve early literacy skills, including phonemic awareness and fluency. The Reading Tutor will be required to collect data to monitor student progress and assist with the administration of the Virginia Language & Literacy Screening System (VALLSS) in the middle and end of the year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Maintain a positive learning environment and respond to individual needs of students.
- Ensure district policies are observed during all activities.
- Support students with reading fluency.
- Reinforce phonics and decoding skills.
- Build vocabulary and word recognition.
- Provide one‑on‑one or small group support.
- Encourage reading confidence and motivation.
- Collaborate with teachers on student needs.
- Create a safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
- Always keep all children in the classroom under supervision.
- Adhere to the daily schedule.
- Be familiar with fire exits, fire drill procedures, severe storm, and tornado warning procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality as defined by FERPA.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
