The Mathematical Sciences Department offers undergraduate, Master’s, and Ph.D. programs in pure, applied, and computational mathematics. High-level research across a variety of disciplines is strengthened through collaborations with local government/industry partners and nearby universities. High-quality teaching and community engagement is achieved through innovative strategies including extensive outreach work, active learning, hands‑on undergraduate research, and internship programs with high success rates among both undergraduate and graduate students.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences in the College of Science at George Mason University seeks qualified adjunct faculty to teach undergraduate courses on an as‑needed basis.
Responsibilities- Teach up to three lower division undergraduate courses per semester;
- Develop and manage the class syllabus and ensure that it meets department and university standards;
- Communicate with your class(es) to disseminate relevant announcements efficiently;
- Grade assigned homework, quizzes, and exams in a timely fashion;
- Utilize Canvas course management system to report student learning outcomes;
- Advise students on how to be successful and achieve goals;
- Schedule at least two office hours per week;
- Stay updated on innovations and changes within the course field.
- Master’s degree in a related field;
- At least 18 hours of graduate coursework in mathematics or closely related areas;
- Technologically savvy;
- Ability to utilize email, different online learning systems, and other effective ways to communicate with students;
- Clear understanding of curriculum design, pedagogy, and learning outcome alignment;
- Exceptional communicator able to show confidence in teaching and presenting to a class;
- Genuine interest in nurturing the academic growth of students.
- Experience teaching in an active learning environment;
- Experience teaching mathematics at a college level;
- Instructor of record for college level mathematics courses;
- Evidence of utilizing active learning pedagogy in the classroom.
