• Provide effective career and technical instruction in the assigned trade area.
• Assist assigned students to complete required competencies for that trade area.
• Demonstrate effective classroom or lab management.
• Ensure the lab operates in compliance with all aspects of safety management.
• Maintain accurate and current student records for the assigned student.

• Demonstrated ability to engage students in one‑on‑one teaching and work with students and inmate aides in a classroom/lab environment.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records.
• Knowledge and experience of policy and procedure governing adult education.
• Working knowledge of basic adult education field, adult literacy, and computer software appropriate for program needs.
• Experience in maintaining classroom, equipment, and inventories; demonstration of competency in the related field of current trade licensure.
• Knowledge and success rate in GED preparation and completion.
• Education:
  
  Four‑year degree in Business/Information Technology (or High School Diploma with equivalent experience).
• Licensure:
  Must be eligible for a Collegiate license from the Department of Education with an endorsement in business/information technology area.
• MS Office Specialist certification required for those who do not have a four‑year degree in Business Administration; must also be eligible for a teaching certificate from the Department of Education.
• Provisional license:
  Submit documentation for provisional license within first 90 days of employment.
• Obtain provisional license within the 1‑year probationary period; employee responsibility for maintaining teaching license under Virginia Department of Education guidelines.

• Master’s degree with major or minor in a relevant educational field.
• Five years experience in related trade/field preferred.
• Knowledge of all phases of the trade area.
• Licensure:
  Must hold a Collegiate license with endorsement in business/information technology area.
• Teaching certificate from the Department of Education required for High School Diploma holders with equivalent experience.
• Experience teaching adults and/or youth in a correctional or alternative education setting.
• Prefer knowledge of policy and procedures governing adult education.
• Experience with Virginia Department of Corrections institutional policies and procedures.
• Knowledge and experience in correctional education classroom management.
• Ability to supervise students and inmate aides in a correctional facility.
• Facilitate other correctional education instructors and knowledge of DOC institutional policies and procedures.
