Job DescriptionGermanna Community College is a two‑year public institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. It serves the residents of the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Caroline, Culpeper, King George, Madison, Orange, Spotsylvania and Stafford.
Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. We are seeking someone who can teach Biology (Anatomy and Physiology) both in‑person and online. Adjunct faculty are employed to teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters and/or up to 8 credit hours during the summer session.
Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs. The contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.
This position is located in Virginia. Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance or be willing to relocate to ensure consistent, reliable attendance.
Duties and Tasks- Teach specific classes in the designated discipline.
- Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
- Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
- Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of GCC and the VCCS.
- Maintain current competence in the particular discipline or field of specialization.
As part of the primary responsibility to provide quality instruction, the College expects each faculty member to meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses with the established texts; and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications- Master’s Degree with at least eighteen graduate semester hours in Biology (Anatomy and Physiology)
- Ability to effectively teach classrooms and online
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to use instructional technology
- Experience with or willingness to learn artificial intelligence tools
- Prior teaching experience
- Work experience in the field
- Experience with online teaching
- Substantial, proven experience with innovative teaching and developing online courses in both synchronous and asynchronous learning environments at a regionally accredited institution
