General Information
The Division of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Brightpoint Community College augments full‑time teaching faculty with qualified part‑time instructors to enhance the student learning process. Adjunct faculty teaching is limited to a maximum of eight credit hours in the summer semester, twelve credit hours in the fall semester, and twelve credit hours in the spring semester. These limits are for the total number of credit hours taught in the Virginia’s Community Colleges (VCCS).
Additional restrictions may apply depending upon other positions occupied within VCCS.
Teach American Sign Language courses (I, II, III, IV) on either the Chester or Midlothian campus, or online. Instruction may be delivered online or in traditional on‑campus settings.
Responsibilities- Design, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons in American Sign Language.
- Assist students with learning outcomes and academic progress.
- Participate in departmental meetings and professional development activities.
- Support the office and other faculty with additional duties as assigned.
- Minimum of a master’s degree in the discipline or a master’s degree in a related field with 18 graduate semester hours of coursework in American Sign Language.
- Prior teaching experience at the postsecondary level.
- Proficient in using instructional technologies.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
