Job Description
We are one of the largest school divisions in Virginia, comprising 31 schools and serving over 24,000 students. As an ECSE teacher you will develop and implement instructional programs that provide the best possible education for students whose needs are not met in a general classroom.
Essential Job Functions- Provides specialized instruction and individual educational planning for students with significant needs.
- Develops, implements, and annually reviews Individualized Education Programs (IEP) in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations; maintains performance records and reports.
- Assists in screening, evaluating, and recommending placements for students within the division’s special education program.
- Participates as a member of an interdisciplinary team to provide appropriate educational programs for students with disabilities.
- Holds periodic parent conferences and/or home visits.
- Complies with all special education procedures from the division-wide handbook and the Virginia State Regulations.
Required
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Ability to obtain appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board.
- Acceptable rating of prior teaching experience, as applicable.
Preferred
- Currently holds a Virginia Collegiate Professional or Postgraduate Professional License with a specific endorsement area(s).
- Prior teaching experience within a public school system.
- Teachers working with students with emotional disabilities should be trained in MANDT methodology and receive additional training annually.
- Teachers working with students on the Autism Spectrum should have knowledge of evidence‑based practices (ABA, alternative communication, modeling, structured teacher visual schedules, etc.).
- Teachers working with students with Severe Intellectual Disabilities should have training in personal hygiene, specialized equipment, augmentative communication, seizure and feeding protocols, body positioning, tracheotomy care, and suctioning.

Employment TermsContract:
10‑Month (200 Day) at a minimum of 7.5 hours per day. Position evaluated annually. Additional compensation awarded for credits earned toward advanced degrees.
