American Sign Language (ASL)/English Interpretation Instructors
Part‑time adjunct instructors are needed to teach ASL/English interpretation courses at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Position OverviewFaculty‑ranked adjunct appointment. Classes are scheduled on campus. Additional duties may be assigned, including emergency response support as directed by state authorities.
ResponsibilitiesTeach ASL/English interpretation courses according to curriculum standards. Prepare instructional materials and assessments. Use Canvas (LMS) and Zoom for course delivery. Maintain professional interpreter certification and stay updated on industry best practices.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree (or Associate’s) in ASL‑English Interpretation or a related field.
- At least two years of experience as an ASL‑English interpreter.
- Current and valid national interpreter certification.
- Previous community college teaching experience.
- Proficient in incorporating technology into instruction and faculty responsibilities.
- Ability to develop and deliver courses via Canvas and Zoom.
- Native or near‑native ASL fluency (e.g., ASLPI 4 or higher).
- Experience working effectively with multicultural populations and supporting diversity, cultural understanding, and inclusion.
- Proficiency with a personal computer and current Microsoft Office programs.
- Travel among Reynolds campuses and partner sites may be necessary.
- Ability to work a schedule that varies according to class needs and school demands.
