Position is responsible for assisting students, school personnel and parents with relevant educational and personal/social goals to help students achieve personal fulfillment by providing guidance and counseling services to make successful personal, educational and occupational life plans. Develops and implements effective programs for all students while functioning as a member of a school’s multidisciplinary team. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the School Principal with support from the Director of Student Services.

Essential Functions- Provide counseling for students with an understanding of legal and ethical considerations, professional issues and standards.
- Assist in research and evaluation aimed at improving school guidance and counseling programs.
- Utilize the understanding of the skills and processes related to the school counseling program at all school levels, including characteristics of learners, program planning, coordination, consultation, and staffing patterns.
- Help students evaluate career interests and choices.
- Assist students in course and subject selection.
- Obtain and disseminate occupational information to students and to classes studying occupations.
- Assist students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data, and work with students in designing education and occupation plans.
- Discover and develop special abilities of students.
- Resolve students’ educational handicaps.
- Register students new to the school and orient them to school procedures and opportunities for learning.
- Prevent students from dropping out of school.
- Remain readily available to students so as to provide counseling that will lead each student to increase personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.
- Work with students on an individual basis on the solution of personal problems related to home and family relations, health, and emotional adjustment.
- Guide students in their participation in school and community activities.
- Maintain student records and protect their confidentiality.
- Supervise the preparation and processing of college, scholarship, and employment applications.
- Make recommendations to colleges for admissions and scholarships.
- Provide student information to colleges and potential employers according to provisions of the Board’s policy on student records.
- Confer with teachers, parents, and students regarding students’ needs or concerns.
- Provide in‑service training in guidance for teachers and student teachers.
- Work with teachers and staff to familiarize them with the general range of services offered by the student personnel services department and improve the educational prospects of students being counseled.
- Take an active role interpreting the school’s objectives to students, parents and the community at large.
- Assist in creating master schedule for the school.
- Coordinate the standardized testing program and assist interpretation and disaggregation of test data for the school.
- Coordinate efforts among teachers, students, and parents to promote academic performance and prevent student retention.
- Serve as a member of the School Crisis Management Team.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Assume other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
