Job DescriptionEngage students in exploring how geography shapes the similarities and differences among the world’s major regions. Join Southside Virginia Community College in broadening students’ global perspectives through GEO 220:
World Regional Geography. This is a Passport and UCGS transfer course that examines the similarities and differences among the world's major regions. The successful candidate must be committed to SVCC’s mission to provide high-quality education to the Southside Virginia community.
Applications will be received, reviewed, and considered continuously until needed positions are filled.
Course Content &Specific Duties
- Evaluate the ways in which people and places interact across space and time to produce specific spatial and environmental patterns.
- Introduce students to essential geographic tools, such as maps, to analyze regional data.
- Deliver instruction in a hybrid format, ensuring high-quality course materials align with college standards and learning outcomes.
- Maintain engagement through the college’s Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) for the online portion of the course.
- Support student success through active instruction and adherence to the community college mission.
- Monitor and document class attendance in compliance with college policies, maintaining accurate records and communicating with students and necessary departments as needed to support academic success.
- Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Geography or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Interpersonal communication skills; ability to write syllabi and exams
- Ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments
- Ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds
- Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the community college and student success
- Teaching experience at the college level, specifically with face-to-face and online/hybrid modalities.
- Competency using instructional technologies such as SMART boards, Zoom and Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
- Experience working with community college students.
- Demonstrated commitment to student engagement and academic success.
