Job Overview

Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is a nonresidential, two-year community college serving Central Virginia, primarily residents of Charlottesville and surrounding counties. PVCC is part of the Virginia Community College System and offers a nationally recognized transfer curriculum and workforce development programs.

Adjunct Faculty – Criminal Justice (Part-time, semester-based, course-by-course)

• Teach developmental and/or college-level Criminal Justice courses, including online, on-campus, and hybrid modalities.
• Develop and deliver course materials, assignments, and assessments.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to students, supporting their academic and career goals.
• Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and any campus-wide initiatives as needed.
• Ensure timely completion of grades and course evaluations.
• Facilitate instructional sessions primarily face-to-face, with possible remote instruction.

• Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or a related field.
• At least two (2) years of law enforcement work experience.
• Master’s degree in Criminal Justice or any related field with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Criminal Justice courses is an additional consideration.
• Demonstrated expertise, knowledge, experience, and a history of successful teaching or related experience.

• Official transcripts required upon employment; unofficial transcripts acceptable for initial review.
• Foreign transcripts must be evaluated by an accredited service.
• References and criminal background checks required.
• Criminal background investigation may include fingerprint checks, local agency checks, employment verification, education verification, and credit checks as required by the Commonwealth.
