Job Overview

Title:

Adjunct Faculty – ASL/INT

Location:

Multiple campuses within the DC, VA, MD DMV area.

Employment Type:

Part‑time adjunct; appointment contains no guarantee of continued employment. Teaching load based on enrollment.

Teaching Formats:
Face‑to‑face, remote, and online.

Duties and Tasks
  • Teach specific classes in American Sign Language and Interpreting.
  • Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
  • Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
  • Adhere to NOVA and VCCS policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Maintain current competence in ASL/INTERPRETING discipline.
Essential Functions

The college expects each faculty member to: meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach prescribed courses of study with the established texts; and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with college policies, procedures, and regulations.

Qualifications KSA’s
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population.
  • Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Availability to teach during the day, evening, or weekend.
  • Ability to use instructional technology and teach via technology.
  • Native or near-native fluency in ASL.
  • Ability to teach ASL and int classes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in the teaching field or a master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours of coursework in the teaching field, awarded by a regionally accredited institution.
Additional Considerations
  • Experience teaching all levels of American Sign Language at the college level.
  • Prior experience teaching in higher education.
  • Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, and online formats.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency.
