Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree from an approved teacher preparation program in agriculture education or
- A Technical Professional License with coursework in plant science, animal science, agricultural mechanics and applied technology with a lab component, forestry and wildlife management and horticulture.
- Teaching experience preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Demonstrate an accurate knowledge of agriculture and effectively address appropriate CTE VDOE curriculum standards.
- Develop each student’s awareness and understanding of basic skills, knowledge, and resources applicable to the agricultural industry.
- Maintain an active leadership student organization, FFA, instilling in each student effective, safe working habits, importance of continuing education, and successful work ethics.
- Humanize instruction by planning a program of study that meets the individual needs of students.
- Plan purposeful assignments for student teachers, aides, and substitute teachers.
- Assist in the evaluation, selection, and requisition of books, equipment, audio‑visuals, and other supplementary materials.
- Implement all curriculum programs adopted system wide in a positive and efficient manner.
- Participate in curriculum development appropriate to the assignment.
- Establish clear objectives for all learning experiences and communicate these objectives to students.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with students.
- Provide and maintain student progress or assessment through data.
- Speak clearly using fluent and appropriate language with well‑modulated tones.
- Ensure proper setup and storage of program resources.
- Promptly and accurately handle routine matters involving reports, records and monies.
- Takes all necessary precautions to protect and maintain facilities, equipment, and materials.
- Return materials to their assigned place or designated personnel promptly after use.
- Emphasize and enforce safety factors within the classroom, building, and throughout school property.
- As an extension of classroom management responsibilities, supervise students throughout the school as assigned, or as circumstances require.
- Establish reasonable classroom rules with consistent enforcement occurring in a positive way.
- Cooperate with administrative and supervisory staff in the evaluation process.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relations with co‑workers relative to school matters.
- Comply with and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policies.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and other professional meetings as required.
- Coordinate relevant work‑based learning opportunities for students.
- Cooperate and collaborate with other staff members to plan instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
- Complete reasonable special assignments as determined by the Principal and assist the school administration.
- Provide long‑ and short‑range professional development goals and plans through the program of study.
- Participate in and provide business partners for the CTE Advisory Board.
- Sponsor the local chapter of the respective CTSO, encouraging and assisting students in competition preparation.
- Foster workplace readiness skills by strategically integrating Virginia’s 5
Cs into daily lesson plans. - Provide and monitor an updated program inventory list required by law, school division policy, and administrative regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
This job operates in a professional, school environment. The role routinely uses standard equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. The physical demands include standing, walking, reaching, and sitting for extended periods of time. Communication is consistently required.
