D2 Government Solutions is seeking an experienced
Primary Craft Master Instructor/Writer
to support the U.S. Army Transportation Corps School's Maritime and Intermodal Training Department (MITD) at Joint Base Langley‑Eustis, Virginia.

In this role, you'll use your maritime expertise to train Navy personnel on the operation, navigation, and employment of
Landing Craft Utility (LCU) 1600‑series vessels
. You'll provide classroom, simulator, dockside, and underway instruction while helping develop and enhance training programs that directly support military readiness and mission success.

What You'll Do Deliver Maritime Training
  • Conduct classroom, dockside, vessel, and simulator instruction for Navy personnel.
  • Teach navigation, Rules of the Road, marine radar, vessel operations, cargo handling, damage control, firefighting, and related maritime subjects.
  • Lead practical exercises involving vessel maneuvering, amphibious operations, beaching and retracting, docking and undocking, and ship‑to‑shore movements.
  • Train and evaluate students on safe and effective LCU operations.
Support Student Success
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and remedial instruction when needed.
  • Answer student questions and reinforce learning objectives.
  • Foster a professional learning environment focused on operational excellence and safety.
Develop and Maintain Course Materials
  • Prepare lesson plans, presentations, and training materials.
  • Review and update curriculum content to reflect current doctrine, procedures, equipment, and regulations.
  • Support course scheduling, training coordination, and instructional planning activities.
  • Assist in maintaining programs of instruction and related course documentation.
Support Training Operations
  • Coordinate simulator support and training resources.
  • Assist with graduation activities and course administration.
  • Support additional maritime training programs as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of
    12 years of maritime operational experience
    in deck operations, boatswain's mate duties, or related maritime functions.
  • Experience serving in the:
    • U.S. Navy
    • U.S. Coast Guard
    • Merchant Marine Service
    • Or comparable maritime environment.
  • Qualified as an
    LCU-1600 Craft Master
    .
  • Qualified with a
    USCG-approved Marine Radar Observer endorsement/license
    and
    Bridge Resource Management qualification
    .
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in military or civilian maritime operations.
  • Recent military or maritime instructional experience.
  • Experience using maritime training simulators.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Navigation
    • Rules of the Road
    • Marine Radar
    • Cargo stability
    • ECPINS
    • Damage control
    • Firefighting
    • Vessel operations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience instructing military watercraft operations.
  • Previous experience supporting Navy or Army maritime training programs.
  • Background in amphibious operations and LCU employment.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work aboard vessels and in maritime environments.
  • Ability to climb ship ladders and access ways safely.
  • Ability to participate in damage control and firefighting training exercises.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds.
Security & Access Requirements
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain installation access credentials.
  • Must comply with all Government and installation security requirements.
  • Must complete required OPSEC training and safeguard Government information and equipment.

A Secret Clearance is not required for this position.

Travel

Occasional travel may be required to support training activities, including travel to:

  • Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek‑Fort Story, VA
