Job Overview
This is a full-time, remote Middle School Science Teacher position for the Virginia Virtual Academy (VAVA), a K12 partner of Stride. Candidates are strongly preferred to reside in Virginia, with consideration for Washington, DC and Maryland. Applicants must be able to attend in-person professional development, testing, and school events as required.
The teacher will deliver state‑certified Middle School (6‑8) science instruction in an online environment, manage the learning process, and support students and families through Stride K12’s learning management system.
Responsibilities- Provide rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for students.
- Personalize learning for all students, differentiating instruction based on mastery levels.
- Augment course content according to prescribed policies and procedures using appropriate tools under guidance from the principal and coach.
- Maintain grade books, ensure academic integrity, make placement and promotion decisions, alert administrators to performance concerns.
- Prepare students for high‑stakes standardized tests.
- Establish and maintain positive rapport with families; communicate regularly and respond in a timely manner.
- Support learning coaches/parents with curricular and instructional issues, including basic troubleshooting in a virtual classroom environment.
- Travel roughly 20% of the time, on average once per month, for face‑to‑face professional development, student testing, and other school functions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Active state teaching license.
- Successful completion of a required background check.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data, and use it to drive instructional decisions.
- Openness to regular coaching from administrators and teacher trainers.
- Adaptability and eagerness to embrace change to ensure excellent student outcomes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint.
- Rapid learning ability for new technologies and teaching platforms.
- Maintenance of teacher certification/professional development hours and fluency in K12 systems, programs, and curriculum.
- Experience working with the proposed age group.
- Experience supporting adults and children with technology.
- Experience teaching in an online (virtual) or brick‑and‑mortar environment.
- Experience with online learning platforms.
Stride, Inc. determines salary based on education, experience, qualifications, work location, travel, and internal market factors. Benefits and compensation are offered in the bottom half of the market range for similar positions.
