Job DescriptionEDEP Assistant supports the Head Teacher and/or Teacher in the After‑School program. The position is part‑time, 4 hrs/day, 10 months/year.
Responsibilities- Assist the teacher with daily tasks.
- Instruct students in preplanned activities as required.
- Assist with any activity and special event as needed.
- Establish and maintain cooperative professional relations with ASEP staff and school staff.
- Exhibit positive public relations.
- Uphold school rules, policies, and procedures.
- Prepare and distribute snacks as needed.
- Provide care for students in all EDEP venues (Student Holiday, Spring Break, and Inclement Weather programs).
- Participate in EDEP programs as assigned.
- Maintain a safe work environment.
- Establish and maintain high standards of behavior.
- Attend required and assigned training sessions.
- Exhibit dependable work habits.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Ability to develop and maintain an empathetic attitude toward students with disabilities; willingness to learn specialized instructional/management techniques; effective communication and relationship building with students, parents, and staff; high‑school graduate or equivalent; willing to seek and maintain CPR certification.
Education and ExperienceAny combination of education and experience equal to high‑school graduation, including basic keyboard and filing training. Basic First Aid training required.
Physical Conditions and Nature of WorkWork performed in school settings such as cafeteria, gym, recreational areas, and other assigned spaces. Frequent walking, standing, lifting up to 40 pounds, and limited physical activities required. Occasional travel with students on field trips. Frequent movement of students by wheelchair or other mechanical devices. Occasional lifting of equipment up to 50 pounds. Daily personal and close contact with children and ASEP staff necessary to provide an effective learning environment.
