Natural Sciences Adjunct

Position Overview

Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) seeks qualified part‑time adjunct faculty to teach fundamental science courses across multiple campuses and through distance learning. The position is part‑time, credit‑hour dependent, and payable per credit hour.

• Instructional Delivery: Plan, organize, and teach courses using approved syllabi and best practices.
• Laboratory Supervision: Lead hands‑on labs, maintain safety protocols, and guide inquiry.
• Technology Integration: Use the Learning Management System (Canvas) for grading, announcements, and virtual components.
• Evaluation & Feedback: Grade assignments, labs, and exams; provide timely academic feedback.

  Offer students academic guidance in person or virtually.
• Administrative Compliance: Follow policies, submit final grades by deadlines, and report attendance issues.

• Master’s degree in Biology or related biomedical science – 18+ graduate credit hours (specialty). For General Chemistry:
  Master’s in Chemistry (18+ credit hours). For Physics:
  Master’s in Physics (18+ credit hours).
• Demonstrated teaching competence, strong oral and written communication.
• Ability to develop syllabi, curricula, and assessments.
• Experience working with diverse student populations.
• Commitment to community‑college mission and student success.
• Proficiency with pedagogical strategies and learning platforms.

• Community‑college or university teaching experience, including face‑to‑face, online, and hybrid.
• Experience creating fully online asynchronous laboratory courses.
• Competence with SMART boards, Zoom, and Canvas LMS.
• Demonstrated commitment to student engagement and academic success.
