Adjunct Communications Faculty (Part-Time) – Introduction to Human Communication
Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC), located in Alberta, VA, is hiring an adjunct faculty member for CST 110:
Introduction to Human Communication. The role is part‑time, teaching one blended class each fall semester. Compensation is $793–$1,098 per credit, based on qualifying rank.
- Examine elements affecting human communication in intrapersonal, interpersonal, small group, and public contexts.
- Emphasize the practice and development of communication skills across all contexts.
- Facilitate college‑level reading and analysis of scholarly studies.
- Oversee production of coherent written reports, including at least one APA/MLA‑formatted assignment.
- Deliver instruction in a hybrid format, ensuring high‑quality course materials align with college standards.
- Maintain engagement through the Canvas Learning Management System for the online portion.
- Monitor and document class attendance in compliance with college policies.
- Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Communication, Speech, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills; ability to write syllabi and exams.
- Demonstrated ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments.
- Experience teaching diverse student populations and working with students of varying abilities.
- Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the community college and student success.
- Teaching experience at the college level, including face‑to‑face and online/hybrid modalities.
- Competency using instructional technologies such as SMART boards, Zoom, and Canvas LMS.
- Experience working with community college students and a commitment to student engagement and academic success.
The position is an adjunct, course‑by‑course appointment. No state or VCCS benefits are provided. Telework options may be available based on business needs. The role is scheduled for the fall semester of 2026 (August 17 – December 15, 2026) at Christanna Campus, Tuesdays 1:00 PM – 2:25 PM, with online components.
