Adjunct Religion Faculty (Part-Time) – Religions of the World

Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) seeks an adjunct faculty member to teach REL 230 – Religions of the World. This course is a Passport and UCGS transfer offering that introduces students to the major world religions:
Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism. The role is part‑time, course‑by‑course, and scheduled for the Fall 2026 semester (August 16 – December 15, 2026). Instruction will be delivered in a hybrid format, combining in‑person classes on the Christanna Campus (Alberta, VA) Mondays 11:10 AM–12:35 PM with online components on Canvas.

• Introduce and explore the origins, history, and basic beliefs of each major religion.
• Develop and deliver course materials that meet SVCC standards for quality and accessibility.
• Engage students through interactive lectures, discussions, and assignments in both face‑to‑face and online environments.
• Maintain accurate attendance records and provide timely communication to the department and relevant support services.
• Utilize instructional technologies such as SMART Boards, Zoom, and Canvas LMS to enhance learning.
• Assist with other duties as assigned by the department or institution, including emergency support if required.

• Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Religious Studies, Theology, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to develop syllabi and assessments.
• Experience teaching at the college level, particularly in face‑to‑face and hybrid modalities.
• Proficiency with instructional technologies such as SMART Boards, Zoom, and Canvas LMS.
• Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and varying abilities.
• A demonstrated commitment to SVCC’s mission of student success and community service.
