Adjunct Art Appreciation Faculty (Part-Time)
Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) seeks an adjunct faculty member to teach ART 100:
Art Appreciation (a Passport and UCGS transfer course) in a hybrid format for the Fall 2026 semester (August 17 – December 15, 2026). The position is part‑time, paid $793.00 – $1,098.00 per credit, and appointments are made on a course‑by‑course basis.
The successful candidate will develop and deliver high‑quality instruction, maintain engagement through the Learning Management System, and monitor attendance and academic progress. The role supports SVCC’s mission to provide inclusive, student‑centered education in a rural community setting.
Responsibilities- Describe architectural styles, sculpture, photography, printmaking, and painting techniques.
- Highlight major artists and key contributions from both global and Western cultures.
- Organize course content chronologically or thematically.
- Teach in a hybrid format, ensuring online materials meet college standards.
- Use the Learning Management System to support student engagement.
- Document attendance and communicate with students and departments to support academic success.
- Perform additional duties as assigned and assist the agency in case of emergency declarations.
- Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Art or Art History from a regionally accredited institution.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to write syllabi, exams, and develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments.
- Experience working with diverse and students of varying abilities.
- Teaching experience at the college level, especially in face‑to‑face and online/hybrid modalities.
- Competency with instructional technologies (SMART boards, Zoom, Canvas LMS).
- Demonstrated commitment to student engagement and academic success.
- Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the community college and student success.
- Experience working with community college students.
Position offers pay per credit; there are no state or SVCC benefits. This is a faculty appointment on a course‑by‑course basis and is not exempt from FLSA or benefits.
