Southside Virginia Community College, Christanna Campus – Alberta, VA (Hybrid)

Work Schedule:

Fall 2026 Semester (August 17‑December 15, 2026). Hybrid format: in‑person sessions Wednesdays, 2:30 PM – 3:55 PM; online components supported through Canvas LMS.

Salary: $793.00 – $1,098.00 per credit, based on qualifying rank.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate the ways in which people and places interact across space and time to produce specific spatial and environmental patterns.
  • Introduce students to essential geographic tools, such as maps, to analyze regional data.
  • Deliver instruction in a hybrid format, ensuring high‑quality course materials align with college standards and learning outcomes.
  • Maintain engagement through the college’s Canvas Learning Management System for the online portion of the course.
  • Support student success through active instruction and adherence to the community college mission.
  • Monitor and document class attendance in compliance with college policies, maintaining accurate records and communicating with students and necessary departments as needed to support academic success.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Geography or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal communication skills; ability to write syllabi and exams.
  • Ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments.
  • Ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the community college and student success.
Additional Considerations
  • Teaching experience at the college level, specifically with face‑to‑face and online/hybrid modalities.
  • Competency using instructional technologies such as SMART boards, Zoom, and Canvas Learning Management System.
  • Experience working with community college students.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student engagement and academic success.
