River Road Early Learning Center is seeking a caring, energetic, and dedicated Assistant Pre‑K Teacher to join our team in Richmond, Virginia. This full‑time position offers competitive pay at $17–$19 per hour and a supportive, collaborative environment that values professional growth and a positive workplace culture.
Position OverviewAs an Assistant Teacher, you will work alongside our Lead Teacher to create a nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment that prepares children for kindergarten success. You will support daily classroom activities, maintain a safe and organized environment, and build positive relationships with children and families.
Responsibilities- Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons and activities.
- Support children's cognitive, language, social‑emotional, and physical development.
- Foster a warm, nurturing classroom where every child feels safe, valued, and encouraged.
- Supervise children during classroom activities, outdoor play, meals, and rest time.
- Assist with classroom organization, preparation of materials, and daily routines.
- Encourage positive behavior through consistent guidance and encouragement.
- Support early literacy, math, science, art, music, and hands‑on learning experiences.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
- Observe children and share developmental observations with the Lead Teacher.
- Build positive relationships with families through daily communication.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and administrators to support student success.
- Follow all Virginia licensing regulations and River Road Early Learning Center policies.
- Experience working with preschool‑aged children preferred.
- CDA, associate’s degree, or coursework in Early Childhood Education preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Positive, dependable, and professional attitude.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and actively participate in classroom activities.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Has a genuine love for working with young children.
- Must be patient, kind, and nurturing.
- Enjoys working collaboratively with a Lead Teacher.
- Takes initiative and is eager to learn.
- Creates positive relationships with children and families.
- Is organized, dependable, and flexible.
- Believes every child deserves a joyful and engaging learning experience.
