PRIMARY FUNCTION
Assume responsibility for planning, delivering, assessing, and evaluating instruction that promotes academic achievement and the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of fourth-grade students. Establish and maintain a positive, safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs) and the mission and goals of Charles City County Public Schools.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required;
Master's degree preferred. - Holds or is eligible for a valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Elementary Education (PreK6) or another appropriate Virginia endorsement for the assigned grade level.
- Demonstrates knowledge of Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs), evidence-based instructional practices, curriculum development, classroom management, and student assessment.
- Demonstrates professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, parents, school personnel, and members of the community.
- Demonstrates effective oral, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to utilize instructional technology and maintain electronic records.
- Ability to move about the classroom to monitor students and provide instruction in classrooms with varied seating arrangements.
- Ability to supervise students in classrooms, cafeterias, playgrounds, gymnasiums, buses, field trips, and other school-related activities.
- Ability to prepare and maintain required reports and documentation.
- Ability to lift instructional materials and equipment with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Possesses high moral standards, integrity, professionalism, and maintains confidentiality.
- Successfully completes all employment requirements, including criminal history and child protective services background checks as required by Virginia law.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans and delivers engaging instruction aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning and the School Division curriculum for fourth-grade students.
- Creates and maintains a safe, orderly, respectful, and positive classroom environment that promotes student learning.
- Uses a variety of instructional strategies, technology, and differentiated instructional practices to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Develops lesson plans that support student achievement in English, mathematics, science, Virginia studies/history, and other assigned content areas.
- Monitors, assesses, and documents student learning using formal and informal assessment strategies.
- Analyzes student achievement data to guide instructional decisions and improve student outcomes.
- Establishes and maintains appropriate standards of student behavior that support an effective learning environment.
- Encourages responsible citizenship, respect for diversity, positive character development, and appropriate student conduct.
- Identifies instructional resources, interventions, and support services necessary to meet the academic and social-emotional needs of individual students.
- Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, School Board policy, and administrative regulations.
- Communicates regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, instructional programs, behavior, attendance, and school-related matters.
- Collaborates with teachers, specialists, counselors, administrators, and support staff to improve student achievement.
- Participates in faculty meetings, professional learning, curriculum development, school improvement initiatives, and other assigned activities.
- Demonstrates professionalism, ethical conduct, dependability, confidentiality, and continuous professional growth.
- Complies with all federal and state laws, Virginia Department of Education regulations, School Board policies, and administrative procedures.
- Contributes positively to the overall educational program and school community.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the School Administrator.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Employment is based on the School Board-approved teacher contract, salary schedule, and work calendar.
SALARY
Commensurate with education, experience, and the School Board-approved salary schedule.
