Librarian

Rappahannock Community College (RCC), founded in 1970, provides high-quality educational and training opportunities throughout a 12-county service region an hour east of Richmond on the beautiful western shore of the Chesapeake Bay with access to fresh local seafood and water activities. RCC delivers accessible and affordable educational opportunities, including for-credit transfer and career technical programs, robust distance education coursework, quality dual enrollment courses, and award-winning workforce training and credentialing programs.

RCC’s annualized enrollment of 3,700 credit students in  and almost 800 workforce and community development students are supported by almost 140 full-time employees and over 200 part-time/adjunct employees across two main campuses and five satellite sites.

This position is a full-time, twelve-month professional faculty appointment with an excellent benefits package. The anticipated hiring range is $68,293 – $78,000 and will be commensurate with education and experience. The role will be located on the Glenns campus with requirements to occasionally travel to the Warsaw campus. This is an immediate appointment.

The Librarian reports to the Coordinator of Learning Resources and is responsible for supporting the full services provided by the RCC Learning Resource Centers and the Richmond County Public Library (RCPL). The successful candidate will:

  • Work collaboratively with students, staff, and faculty across all campuses and sites to support student success and other initiatives related to RCC
  • Provide reference and customer service support to college and community library patrons
  • Assist in configuring and maintaining electronic resources
  • Provide research assistance and library instruction
  • Assist in training, scheduling and providing guidance to tutors
  • Serve on college and other committees as requested

The Librarian must be comfortable with change and a rapidly changing technological environment. This position will maintain a schedule at both campuses, which may include evenings and weekends. Finalists will be asked to complete a presentation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience providing live instruction in the use of library resources and information literacy.
  • Experience designing online library instructional materials.
  • Experience providing library reference services.
  • Experience using Lib Guides to host online library content.
  • Experience providing outreach to support library services and resources.
  • Experience collaborating with work colleagues to solve problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality customer service.
  • Knowledge of academic library operations.
  • Knowledge of student learning assessment.
  • Knowledge of library management systems.
  • ALA-accredited graduate degree in Library Science.
  • Some library experience.
