Work Schedule

Each Power Line Worker cohort meets M-F 8am-5pm for 10 weeks at a time. Adjunct instructors’ schedules could vary depending on instructional support needs for each cohort and instructor availability. This is a daytime program only, not an evening class.

Job Description

The Adjunct Workforce Powerline instructor will serve as an instructor for the Workforce intensive daytime Power Line Worker Training Program. This position is responsible for delivering hands-on and classroom instruction that prepares students for entry-level employment in the electric utility industry. The ideal candidate will model professionalism, promote teamwork, and ensure a rigorous focus on safety, climbing, and use of industry-standard tools.

The successful candidate should be a Journeyman Powerline Worker with a minimum of 5 years of experience. Candidates must also hold a Class A CDL License. They should also possess a passion for helping others learn the craft.

While teaching experience is helpful, it is not required; however, professional experience and appropriate certification are critical. Our students expect to learn from seasoned professionals who can share their knowledge and relevant experience in the field. Please note: applicants must reside in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland or DC.

Primary responsibilities of this position:

  • Deliver engaging and practical instruction in all aspects of power line work, including pole climbing, equipment operation, electrical theory, and safety protocols.
  • Teach students to properly and safely use tools of the trade, including climbing gear, hand tools, and personal protective equipment ( PPE ).
  • Demonstrate and coach proper climbing techniques and physical conditioning required for line work.
  • Develop students’ soft skills such as teamwork, communication, reliability, and workplace professionalism.
  • Assist with maintaining training facilities, equipment, and materials in safe working condition.
  • Mentor and motivate students, providing constructive feedback and support to help them succeed.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, student progress, and competency evaluations.
  • Attend training for instructor certification and recertification as needed.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a journeyman lineworker or in a closely related role in the electric utility industry
  • Class A CDL license
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physical tasks associated with the trade.
  • Demonstrated expertise in safety practices and lineworker procedures, including pole climbing and equipment use.
  • Effective Oral and Written Communication Skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior instructional or mentoring experience preferred, especially in an adult learning or workforce training environment.
