JOB SUMMARYJOB SUMMARY:
This position is paraprofessional work which requires the teacher assistant to assist the classroom teacher in providing full-time and individualized instruction to students whose first language is not English. This position assists in a variety of tasks and helps carry out instructional procedures as directed by the classroom teacher. This position performs work under the direct supervision of the teacher, building administrator, and E.S.L. supervisor.

This position is paraprofessional work supporting the classroom teacher in a preschool setting. The Teacher Assistant assists with instructional activities, behavior support, health and safety procedures, and the supervision of students. Duties are performed at the direction of the classroom teacher and building administrator. The employee is expected to interact positively and professionally with students, parents, and staff.

EssentialResponsibilities - specific to this job
- Develops an understanding of each student’s learning style and disability and demonstrates an understanding of the student's individual needs and required accommodations, which may be relevant to the implementation of the instructional program, behavioral plan, health-related plans, or emergency plans
- Maintains confidentiality of student information.
- Prepares instructional materials.
- Delivers non-emergency health-related services as specified in the student’s Health Treatment Plan.
- Works cooperatively with the teacher in providing instruction and assistance to students.
- Collects data as directed by the classroom teacher.
- Assists with record keeping and attendance.
- Works with individuals or small groups as directed.
- Assists with classroom management and and the implementation of individual student behavior plans.
- Acts as a role model for proper school behavior.
- Assists with housekeeping duties and maintains bulletin boards.
- Supervises students during all school activities.
- Assists in the safe mobilization of students, including students who are physically disabled.
- Assists with clerical tasks and inventory.
- Performs toilet training routines as directed.
- Actively assists students in dressing, toileting, orthopedic braces, positioning, and matters relating to personal hygiene, health-related services and emergency plans, as needed. In the event of toileting accidents, may be required to change and launder soiled clothing.
- Responds to seizures or medical incidents following required training.
- Utilizes universal precautions when handling bodily fluids.
