Job DutiesTo provide quality instructions and to meet the individual needs of the students in the areas of Adult Basic Education (ABE) and General Educational Diploma (GED). Additionally, to meet the standards defined under the Commonwealth’s statutes and program certification requirements.
Minimum QualificationsDemonstrated ability to facilitate other instructors. The ability to engage students with special needs in one-on-one teaching of all the five subjects and supervise students with special needs and aides in a classroom setting; the ability to maintain accurate records. Knowledge and experience of policy and procedure governing adult special education. Must possess working knowledge of all facets of the basic adult and special education field, adult literacy and computer software appropriate for program needs.
Demonstrated competency in the relevant field of current licensure.
Master’s degree with a major or minor in Special Education.
Prefer experience teaching children/adults/youth with special needs in a correctional or alternative education setting.
Prefer experience of policy and procedures governing special education.
Knowledge and experience in a correctional education classroom management. Must have the ability to supervise students with special needs and inmate aides and demonstrated ability to facilitate other instructors in the correctional facility. Prefer knowledge of policy and procedures governing special education.
Prefer experience teaching adults and or youth with special needs in a correctional or alternative education setting. Experience of Department of Corrections' institutional policies and procedures. The ability to supervise students and inmate aides with special needs in a correctional facility.
