General Statement of DutiesThe mission of the Henrico County Public School's (HCPS) Adult Education Program is to provide diverse educational opportunities that empower students to acquire the knowledge, skills, and credentials necessary for continued education, meaningful employment, and lifelong personal success. The Henrico County Public Schools (HCPS) Adult Education Center offers affordable, high-quality programs that support workforce development, career advancement, and personal growth.
The HCPS-St. Mary's Hospital School of Practical Nursing, offered in affiliation with St. Mary's Hospital, is an 18-month Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program designed to prepare students for entry into the nursing profession. Graduates who successfully complete the program are eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) and, upon successful completion, pursue licensure in Virginia as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
EssentialDuties
The selected candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality classroom instruction and hands-on clinical learning experiences within the practical nursing program. This individual will develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum aligned with state regulations, industry standards, and nursing best practices to prepare students for successful careers in healthcare. Responsibilities include fostering the development of technical nursing competencies, patient care skills, professional ethics, safety practices, and employability skills while promoting student readiness for licensure, continued education, and entry into the healthcare workforce.
InstructionalDuties And Expectations
- Plans, delivers, and assesses instruction using a competency-based education model.
- Participates in ongoing professional development to maintain current knowledge of curriculum, instructional practices, and industry trends.
- Maintains a working knowledge of current industry safety standards and ensures their incorporation into instruction.
- Supports and promotes student participation in internships and apprenticeships with local employers.
- This is a 11-month (239-day) position with a contractual start date of July 30, 2026.
- Salary will be prorated based on the official start date.

Minimum Requirements- Possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the related field.
- Hold a valid professional license or certification in the applicable instructional field.
- Have a minimum of two (2) years of recent, relevant occupational experience in the field.
- Possession of a Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) teaching license with the appropriate endorsement is preferred but not required.
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently and 25 to 50 pounds occasionally, and may assist, move, or restrain students when required to intervene in student safety issues. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, lift, walk, stand, and hear.
