The Department of Parks and Recreation offers a Before & After School program serving schools in Prince William County. The program offers care including enrichment activities, indoor & outdoor play, reading, dance, swimming, homework sessions, snack, library time and more! Our programs serve a broad base of families.
We are seeking highly motivated individuals to join our camp team. Before/After Care Counselors’ responsibilities include:
- Supervising children’s safety in groups prior to school (6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.) and after school (2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.).
- Ability to provide a high level of customer service, work independently and have good communications skills.
- Collect paperwork on an as-needed basis.
- Communicate program information.
- Problem solve when needed.
- 18 years or older
- High School Diploma/GED
- Have experience working with children in structured settings/programs and demonstrate a high level of enthusiasm and caring for the program and its participants.
- Work in various environments(indoor and outdoor settings)
It is important to note that the employee's part-time scheduled hours are based on program enrollments and cannot be guaranteed.

The Department of Parks & Recreation conducts DMV records checks on all employees driving for work purposes and criminal background checks on all hires age 18 years and older. Fingerprinting will be required.
NATURE OF WORKThis class is part of the Recreation Job Family. Incumbents performs routine work in connection with various recreation programs or activities. Work is performed under close supervision with specific instructions provided as to the duties to be completed, the order of completion and method of completion. May perform duties as a building/field attendant, lifeguard II, head concessionaire, head cashier, food and beverage supervisor, children's leader or nursery attendant;
and providing daily upkeep and light maintenance of equipment and facility.
This is an entry-level position that is responsible for providing administrative support and ensuring visitor and participant safety within the facility. Work is performed in accordance with set procedures and guidelines, and deviation from those guidelines require approval. May serve as a lead worker.
