Substitute Teacher

• Instruct students in a school setting serving grades PreK-12, special education and resource classes, including Art, Music, Physical Education, Library, Foreign Language and/or Technology
• Assume responsibility for classroom instruction, assessments and behavior management on a short-term or long-term basis
• Implement teacher-created lesson plans or collaborate with educators to generate lesson plans
• Provide differentiated instructional strategies for students at all levels and in all content areas
• Follow lesson plans submitted by the regular classroom teacher
• Ensure classroom management
• Serve appropriate duty assignments
• Leave appropriate documentation for the teacher
• Perform other duties as assigned by the school
• Prepare reports as required
• Operate a personal computer, basic office equipment and program-instruction equipment
• Communicate with school administrators
• Perform functions independently within school board policy and state law

• At least 18 years of age
• Hold a high school diploma or a General Educational Development (GED) certificate, and have two years of experience working with kids or 60 college credit hours or higher
• Long term substitutes must have 60 college credit hours or higher
• A Bachelor's degree is preferred for long-term substitute eligibility
• Considerable knowledge of principles, concepts and methodologies relative to curriculum instruction
• Flexibility and willingness to adapt to change on short notice
• Working skill in using media and technology to support job functions
• Ability to assess, monitor and use data to differentiate instruction
• Ability to organize, schedule and monitor program effectiveness
• Effective oral and written communication
• Decision-making, problem analysis and interpersonal relationship skills
• Ability to use and access a wide variety of instructional materials
• Ability to manage and supervise students in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade
• Must successfully complete FBI Criminal History Investigation
• Must successfully complete State Police Criminal History Investigation
• Must successfully complete Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigation
• Must successfully complete Tuberculosis Screening/Test
• Ability to sit and stand for extended periods; use a telephone and computer; see and read screens and printed material; hear and speak clearly; drive, bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead

Demonstrates effective classroom management and instructional strategies for diverse learners in PreK-12 settings. Proficient in using technology and media to enhance learning and capable of assessing and differentiating instruction based on student needs.
