Art Teacher

The Sycamore School, a mastery-based learning school, is seeking a part-time Art Teacher to teach one middle school and one high school art class. The classes are held four days a week Monday-Thursday and the hours would be from 10:40am-1:40pm or 12:30-3:30pm. Each class has no more than 10 students. Responsibilities include creating and teaching developmentally appropriate art curricula that focuses on hands-on art skills;

candidates should also be able to supervise lessons to ensure that learners interact in a supportive and respectful manner. The art teacher’s space is a makerspace, so classes can include mixed medium projects. This has the potential to turn into a full-time position in future years.

• Plan and prepare a program of study to meet the needs and interests of the students
• Develop hands-on learning experiences with a reflection component
• Establish and communicate clear learning objectives
• Develop age-appropriate instructional strategies to achieve the art curriculum goals
• Create differentiated lesson plans that are tailored to student needs and interests
• Provide individualized instruction
• Demonstrate and assist students to use different techniques and media to develop art works aligned to their artistic abilities
• Inform students about cultural and historical influences on art
• Provide instruction that encourages students to understand and appreciate art
• Encourage students to express their own personalities and thoughts through the creative process
• Show students how to properly use and care for materials, tools, and equipment
• monitor and maintain classroom inventory
• Plan and present art displays
• Build positive relationships with students and staff
• Manage classroom behavior to create a warm and safe classroom environment
• Monitor and communicate student progress to students, parent/guardians, and other teachers
• Give timely and effective feedback to students to improve student products
• Assess and evaluate student's performance on a regular basis
• Prepare progress reports
• Provide feedback to families about each student's progress

• Proficient in English – strong written and verbal skills
• Tech savvy, including proficiency using Google Classroom, Google Docs and Google Sheets
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Ability to give and take feedback in a constructive and professional manner

• Experience in classroom management
• Previous teaching experience
