Position: Lead Medium Voltage Electrical Field Technician – Switchgear / Transformers / Protective Relays[...]

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead field teams performing testing, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of medium voltage electrical equipment.
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance to technicians during commissioning and maintenance activities.
  • Perform advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting of medium voltage power systems and distribution equipment.
  • Service, inspect, test, and maintain switch gear, transformers, circuit breakers, protective relays, motor control equipment, substations, and power distribution systems.
  • Conduct acceptance testing, relay testing, insulation resistance testing, transformer testing, breaker testing, and power system diagnostics.
  • Support project planning, outage coordination, equipment energization, and startup activities.
  • Review electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, relay settings, protection and control drawings, and commissioning procedures.
  • Coordinate field activities with customers, engineers, project managers, subcontractors, and utility personnel.
  • Ensure all testing and commissioning activities are performed in accordance with company procedures, NETA standards, manufacturer recommendations, and customer specifications.
  • Prepare and review service reports, commissioning documentation, test results, and project closeout packages.
  • Promote a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, LOTO, and company safety requirements.
  • Assist with training, mentoring, and development of junior technicians and field personnel.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required; technical degree or electrical trade certification preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience working with medium voltage electrical equipment and power distribution systems.
  • Proven experience leading field service, commissioning, maintenance, or testing projects.
  • Strong experience with switch gear, transformers, circuit breakers, protective relays, substations, and power distribution equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, relay logic, schematics, and protection diagrams.
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety practices, including NFPA 70E and LOTO procedures.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to customer and project sites.
  • Ability to pass background, drug screening, and driving record requirements.
