This position may be underfilled with a Project Engineer I. The Project Engineer I salary range is $40.35-$52.94 per hour.

Performs professional engineering work in support of Prince William Water’s engineering program. The work involves responsibility for the Capital Improvement Program, including managing projects and studies from inception to completion; projects are of moderate to substantial value. In Engineering and Planning’s Planning and Development Departments, coordinates with developer’s projects to configure or extend water and sanitary sewer utilities for the benefit of Prince William Water.

In Operations and Maintenance and Environmental Services and Water Reclamation, performs professional engineering, modeling, and asset management work in support of Operations and Maintenance. Demonstrates a commitment and supports a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion. All Divisions:

  • Review proposals, engineering reports, plans and specifications, and payment requests of consultants/contractors.
  • Support administration of design and construction projects, ensuring that work is performed following approved design criteria, specifications, plans, and drawings.
  • Prepare contract change order documents.
  • Reviews site and subdivision plans and facilities plans for compliance with Prince William Water’s requirements (Operations and Maintenance – or requirements to meet operational needs).
  • Confer with contractors, design firms, Prince William Water’s inspectors, and other staff as required.
  • Confer with regulatory agencies as necessary. (Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and Prince William County Transportation Department).
  • Provide information concerning Prince William Water to the public, engineers, and developers.
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of the five-year Capital Improvement Program for Prince William Water.
  • Attend seminars and conferences.
  • Operate a Prince William Water vehicle

Engineering and Planning Division:
  • Assists in the development of task orders and coordinates progress meetings with design consultants for preliminary engineering reports (PERs) and studies.
  • Coordinate with Prince William Water’s hydraulic modeler in the use of hydraulic models for water distribution and storage and sanitary sewer collection and conveyance; coordinate the collection and distribution system modeling studies and maintain mapping databases).
  • Coordinates master planning studies and special studies for service feasibility and system improvements. Review and comment on proposed rezoning and special use applications, comprehensive plan amendments, public facilities land use, and related development proposals. Review and comment on hydraulic analyses of development projects.
  • Maintain data related to future water and sewer demands and develops projections and reports. Assess facility capacity to inform future upgrades. Assess facility capacity to inform future upgrades.
Operations and Maintenance and Environmental Services and Water Reclamation Divisions:
  • Provide engineering and technical support concerning the operations and maintenance of systems and facilities.
  • Work and collaborate with departments and other divisions to leverage risk-based asset management analytics in condition assessment of existing assets, Capital Improvement Program (CIP) preparation, infrastructure investment, maintenance program reliability and optimization, and control strategies to reduce asset risks while improving asset utilization.
  • Responsible for monitoring and communicating asset performance through reporting including life cycle analysis, asset performance analysis for Capital and Operations and Maintenance funding, and other analysis required for engineering and operation and maintenance.
  • Provides support in managing procurement and professional or service contracts as may be necessary to advance the asset management program.
  • Provide technical support in addressing hydrologic and hydraulic modeling of sanitary sewer and the water systems.
