The Senior Project Engineer – Mechanical performs and plans commissioning of mechanical systems. The role requires a self-motivated, energetic professional with strong understanding of mechanical system design, construction, and operation.
The engineer is responsible for:
- Reviewing project information
- Executing daily field activities
- Assisting the Project Manager with scheduling and resource planning
- Providing guidance to Project Engineers
The role may include acting as team lead on small to medium projects
, assessing and testing systems at a high technical level. Strong technical competency, organisational skills, communication skills, and teamwork with leadership capability are required.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Commission mechanical, plumbing, and fire alarm & suppression systems, primarily in data centre environments
- Review system designs for compliance with client facility goals
- Prepare commissioning plans and procedures
- Conduct commissioning from design phase through occupation phase following industry best practices
- Attend factory acceptance testing (FAT) and document procedures and results
- Conduct functional testing of equipment
- Analyse test results using instrumentation and prepare reports
- Fully document field procedures, results, issues, and observations using company templates or online tools
- Report on system performance and make technical recommendations
- Coordinate field activities with the Project Manager and project teams
- Prepare and contribute to commissioning documentation and schedules
- Draft comprehensive test procedures for multiple systems and equipment
- Attend project coordination and schedule meetings
- Lead commissioning meetings or present on technical topics when required
- Submit and maintain daily commissioning reports
- Train and guide Associate Project Engineers and Project Engineers
- Respond professionally and promptly to client and project team inquiries
- Comply with company, client, and project safety requirements

- Steam Turbines
- Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) Systems
- Fan Coil Units
- DX Split Systems
- Fan Arrays
- Variable Frequency Drives (VFD)
- Rooftop Units (RTU)
- Variable Air Volume (VAV) Units
- Makeup Air Units (MAU)
- Hydronic Pumps
- Heat Trace
- DDC & PLC Controls
- VESDA Systems
- Domestic Water Pumps & Heaters
One of the following:
- BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of mission critical project experience or relevant mechanical/controls experience
- OR
- 7+ years of commissioning experience with mission critical projects or relevant mechanical/controls experience
- Mission critical facility commissioning experience (essential)
- Strong organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Proactive and detail-oriented
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with limited supervision
- Ability to manage and guide junior engineers on daily tasks
- Knowledge of ASHRAE or BCxA commissioning guidelines preferred
- Strong understanding of BMS and/or EPMS
- Advanced use and understanding of test instrumentation
- Team player with a strong client-first mentality
- Ability to educate and mentor Project Engineers
