Director, Engineering
As Director of Engineering, you will lead engineering operations across key functional areas within Smithfield plants, driving performance, optimizing processes, and ensuring world‑class results.
Key Responsibilities- Lead engineering teams across multiple disciplines, ensuring optimal performance.
- Collaborate with Operations, HR, Safety and other stakeholders to achieve company goals.
- Oversee and manage capital and maintenance budgets and project planning.
- Drive engineering performance to meet operational goals efficiently and cost‑effectively.
- Create and implement short‑ and long‑term operational plans.
- Identify and implement strategies to improve operational performance.
- Ensure facilities comply with internal and external standards and regulations.
- Analyze asset utilization data and develop models for replacement timing and longevity.
- Lead employee development, coaching, and performance management, fostering a positive work environment.
- Partner with HR to develop leadership programs and manage performance.
- Manage cross‑functional initiatives to deliver strategic projects and resolve complex challenges.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business or a related field (or equivalent).
- 10+ years of engineering management experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
- Prior experience in an engineering role.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and SAP.
- Strong critical thinking, problem‑solving, and written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
- Strong interpersonal, technical and presentation skills.
- Experience thriving in fast‑paced, dynamic environments.
- Willingness to travel to other locations up to 50% of the time.
- Professional Engineer licensure preferred.
The role is primarily office‑based, outside the production plant. It includes occasional exposure to mechanical parts, moderate noise, and the ability to sit or stand for extended periods. The candidate must be able to lift up to 25 lbs and travel as needed.
