KeyRoles and Responsibilities
- Develop creative approaches to keep operational costs minimal, improve efficiency, and implement new strategies.
- Mechanical responsibilities: chilled water systems, HVAC systems (roof top units, CRAC/CRAH units), and humidification systems.
- Electrical responsibilities: critical power distribution from main switch gear through UPS systems to customer loads.
- Fire Life Safety responsibilities: wet sprinkler systems, pre‑action sprinkler systems, and associated detection devices.
- Test performance of electromechanical assemblies and electronic voltmeters; inspect parts for surface defects.
- Install electrical or electronic parts and hardware in housings or assemblies using hand and power tools.
- Align, fit or assemble component parts using hand or power tools.
- Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facility systems.
- Analyze systems to ensure best practices for both internal and external customers.
- Provide feedback to relevant teams on the effectiveness of existing standards and processes.
- Work with contractors and consultants to review quality assurance for all system expansions, corrections, and upgrades.
- Track and complete an aggressive preventive and predictive maintenance program.
- Ensure the data centre operates at maximum operational efficiency, analyze existing operating conditions, recommend new technologies, and improve overall efficiency and cost reduction.
- Manage systems to avoid unplanned customer‑impacting events.
- Determine maintenance requirements for mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned and maintain regular, predictable attendance.
- Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems used in a data centre (e.g., electrical distribution, transformers, PLCs, generators, switch gear, UPS, STS, ATS, PDU, chilled water, CRAC/CRAH, pre‑action sprinkler).
- Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25, and compliance issues; familiarity with building codes for fire life safety.
- Current industrial safety best practices (lockout/tag‑out, arc flash protection, OSHA and state regulations).
- Familiarity with data trending/tracking and analysis; ability to use PC‑based integrated critical monitoring systems.
- Hands‑on experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting large commercial and industrial systems (chilled water, cryogenic chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, water treatment, VFDs, pumps, HVAC, humidification, water heaters, filters, BMS and PLC controls, emergency standby diesel generators, fuel systems, 480/277 and 208/120 electrical generation and distribution, static UPS, double interlock pre‑action systems).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, proficiency with MS Office Suite, and ability to coordinate with customers, staff, and contractors.
- Ability to learn quickly, address issues during normal and after‑hours work, operate in a rigorous process‑driven environment, analyze problems logically, multi‑task multiple projects, and operate hand and machine tools.
- Must be comfortable working in a high‑stress, fast‑paced environment with shifting priorities and shift work including nights, holidays, and some weekends.
- Relevant high school diploma or equivalent.
- Relevant advanced qualification or equivalent work‑related experience.
- Relevant certifications: CPR/First Aid, NFPA 70E; OSHA approved forklift certification or ability to obtain one after hire.
- Solid demonstrated experience in a similar role within a data centre facilities environment.
- Experience in a mechanical/electrical position within critical facilities (preferably a data centre, hospital, semiconductor, or power plant).
- Experience as a critical facilities maintenance team leader.
- Hands‑on experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting large commercial and industrial systems (list of systems identical to the Skills section).
Hourly base salary: $33.90 – $50.90, eligible for overtime pay per local state and federal Wage and Hour requirements. Employees are eligible for an annual bonus dependent on performance and receive paid time‑off, medical, dental, vision, life and supplemental insurance, short‑term and long‑term disability, flexible spending account, and a 401(k) retirement plan.
