Position: Principal Modeling and Simulation Software Engineer (Onsite)

Principal Modeling and Simulation (M&S) Software Engineer – Mission Applied Science & Technology (MAST) Team

Join the MAST directorate, an energetic multidisciplinary team of about 60 engineers who develop novel solutions for data and emerging technology applications. As an M&S Software Engineer, you will design and build simulation capabilities that assess system performance across complex mission scenarios, support architecture design, and enable rapid product development.

Security Clearance Requirements

U.S. citizenship is required. A TS/SCI clearance with polygraph is required and must be active and obtainable after day 1. The role is located onsite at Sterling, VA, Richardson, TX, or McKinney, TX with occasional travel to other Raytheon sites.

Responsibilities
  • Work on challenging problems across a broad portfolio of programs and products.
  • Develop Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis (MS&A) capabilities to support mission‑level concept exploration, tactics development, autonomous behaviors, and Software‑in‑the‑Loop (SITL) product development.
  • Develop simulators and emulators for sensors, communications, movement, tactical behaviors, weapon effects, electronic effects, command and control, and other systems.
  • Partner with product teams to accelerate the development of AI/ML and Mission Autonomy capabilities through modeling and simulation.
  • Work with multi‑disciplinary subject matter experts to understand and simulate relevant sub‑system, system, and system‑of‑systems dynamics.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to newer engineers.
Qualifications—Required
  • Typically requires a STEM degree and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience, unless prohibited by local laws or regulations.
  • Experience in Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis (MS&A) engineering or related technical areas.
  • Experience with compiled and scripted languages: C++, Python, Java, JavaScript, etc.
  • Experience with simulation tools such as AFSIM, MAK VR‑Forces, Presagis, SIMDIS, OneSAF, etc.
  • Experience with configuration‑management tools and practices:
    Bitbucket, Confluence, Jira, Git, etc.
  • Experience with mentoring or leading individuals or small technical groups.
Qualifications—Preferred
  • Experience with GIS standards & tools (ESRI ArcGIS, Global Mapper, Cesium, CDB, etc.).
  • Experience with 3D modeling standards & tools (Blender, Creator, Open Flight, etc.).
  • Experience integrating distributed Live, Virtual & Constructive (LVC) simulation components.
  • Experience designing and developing AI/ML systems and architectures.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine or other computer graphics engines.
  • Familiarity with RADAR, Electro‑Optical (EO), and/or Infrared (IR) sensing systems.
  • Familiarity with aerospace/aeronautical systems (fixed‑wing, rockets, satellites, rotorcraft, etc.).
  • Familiarity with IEEE 1278 DIS, IEEE 1516 HLA, and/or TENA.
Benefits
