Location: Newport News, Virginia, United States

Employment Type: Full-Time, Shift 1st, Travel up to 10% of the time, No relocation assistance.

Role Summary

Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics). Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; conducts preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in areas such as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency;

and makes quantitative judgments concerning technical data. Uses a personal computer to perform analyses and develop documentation/reports. May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.

As a Submarine Sonar Engineering Technician 3, the candidate will test, maintain, and operate the Core SONAR System including arrays, hydrophones, and transducer sensors. Will ensure systems function properly as designed and in accordance with required test procedures, generate preliminary problem reports when discrepancies are found, and assist in problem resolution.

Minimum Qualifications (Must Have)
  • Associate’s Degree and 3 years of relevant experience
  • NNS Apprentice School graduate
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, or Military experience
  • High School/GED and 4 years of unrelated Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, or Military experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • In-depth technical knowledge of sonar and commercial‐off‐the‐shelf electronics
  • Experience communicating with customers such as SUPSHIP, NAVSEA, CWITT, and PMS
    450E
  • Ability to coordinate with multiple organizations to accomplish testing safely and successfully
