ARES is the prime contractor for the Wallops Range Contract supporting NASA Wallops Flight Facility. The contract provides mission‑critical support for launch range operations, telemetry, radar, communications, engineering, maintenance, and sustainment activities supporting orbital and suborbital missions.
Position OverviewARES is seeking a Junior Telemetry Technician to support Mobile Telemetry (TM) operations and maintenance activities at Wallops Flight Facility and remote mission locations. The selected candidate will support the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and deployment of telemetry systems and associated RF communications equipment supporting launch and mission operations.
Key Responsibilities- Operate and maintain telemetry ground station equipment and RF/SAT communications systems.
- Support mobile telemetry system deployment, setup, and teardown activities at remote mission locations.
- Operate and maintain telemetry equipment including antennas, receivers, demodulators, bit synchronize rs, recording devices, and ancillary interfaces.
- Perform fault isolation and troubleshooting activities on telemetry and communications systems.
- Interpret schematics, system drawings, and technical documentation.
- Utilize electronic test equipment including oscilloscopes, digital voltmeters, power meters, and signal generators.
- Maintain operational logs and preventative maintenance documentation.
- Follow all company and NASA operational, safety, and quality procedures.
- Support mission operations under the supervision of senior technicians and engineering staff.
- Perform physical tasks including lifting equipment and climbing around antenna systems as required.
- Associate degree or two years of technical education in Electronics or a related technical field, or equivalent military technical training.
- Familiarity with electronic test equipment and instrumentation.
- Ability to travel to remote locations.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Experience with telemetry ground station equipment or RF/SAT communications systems.
- Experience supporting mobile telemetry or mobile communications systems preferred.
- Ability to troubleshoot electronic and RF systems.
- Ability to interpret technical schematics and drawings.
Safety and quality awareness and compliance are required. Shift work may be required based on mission schedules and operational requirements. Assignments may change or vary depending on mission needs.
