The Environmental Engineer ensures total multimedia regulatory compliance for a manufacturing facility. This role directly manages programs across air, hazardous waste (RCRA), water pollution (SPCC), and industrial wastewater discharge.
Key Responsibilities Air Quality Compliance- Permit Management
:
Maintain and renew minor source air permits. - Emissions Tracking
:
Calculate monthly and annual VOC/HAP emissions. - Reporting
:
Submit accurate annual emissions inventories to state agencies. - Exemptions
:
Document and defend categorical permit exemptions. - Waste Characterization
:
Profile hazardous, non-hazardous, and universal wastes. - Manifest Tracking
:
Manage e-Manifest workflows from generation to disposal. - Inspections
:
Conduct weekly satellite and 90/180-day storage area audits. - Training
:
Lead annual RCRA refresher training for plant personnel.
- SPCC Oversight
:
Maintain, review, and update the facility SPCC plan. - Integrity Testing
:
Coordinate periodic inspections for oil storage tanks. - Wastewater Monitoring
:
Sample industrial effluent to meet permit limits. - DMR Submission
:
File monthly Discharge Monitoring Reports via NetDMR.
- Agency Audits
:
Serve as the primary contact for regulatory inspectors. - Corrective Actions
:
Root-cause environmental near-misses and deviations. - Sustainability
:
Track corporate metrics for water, waste, and carbon reduction.
- Education
:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Chemical, or Civil Engineering. - Experience
: 3–5 years of environmental compliance in a manufacturing plant. - Certifications
: CHMM, REM, or FE/PE registration is highly preferred. - Skills
:
Expert proficiency with EPA Central Data Exchange (CDX) systems.
