Daily Tasks- The Assistant Project Manager
- Will coordinate the review of scope of work for final elevator/escalator designs prepared by consultants; prepares independent cost estimates for the final design effort and negotiates contracts with consultants to perform the final design. - Well versed in design and construction change orders, claims, and supplemental agreements, strong understanding of design and planning phase, able to conduct fields inspections, adhere to Client Safety policies and procedures, occasionally substitute as project manager whenever needed. Ensuring quality control, and maintaining stakeholder communication, bridging planning/design with construction to meet timelines and client needs.
- As Assistant Project Manager (APM) in the railway sector you’ll support the delivery of complex rail projects (new builds, upgrades, signaling) by coordinating teams, managing schedules/budgets, tracking progress, handling documentation (submittals, reports),
- Strong knowledge of scheduling best practices to identify scheduling issues that are often leading to problems, budget overruns and stakeholder dissatisfaction. As APM, you’ll be expected to strategically manage projects by fostering innovation, better problem-solving, and higher productivity through strong communication, coordination, and mutual support to achieve organizational objectives.
- Ability to maintain a high level of planning and structuring so tasks are achieved accurately and timely, address cost schedule integration issues on projects, and effectively communicate scheduling findings efficiently to project leaders.
- Work with project’s contributors to make sure schedule is up-to-date and validate data output prior to run report, and also to make sure data output can be used for informed decision-making, performance tracking, risk management, and forecasting to improve project success.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Transportation Planning or related field and RWP Training Level 2 (RWP) required within 6 months.
- Technical:
Applicants with AutoCAD, CAD software, data analysis, report writing, understanding of engineering principles are preferred. - Preferred Applicants with pending EIT/FE Certification:
Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and are working with an accredited program toward a professional licensure (PE).
- Eight (8) years demonstrated progressively responsible experience in engineering, design, planning, and architecture or construction project management preferably in transit or rail industry.
- Safety & Compliance:
Ensuring adherence to rail standards (like Network Rail), safety regulations, and developing safety documentation (Risk Assessments, Method Statements). - Supports the Engineering Manager by overseeing daily maintenance, project delivery, and team performance for rail infrastructure or rolling stock, focusing on safety, compliance (like Network Rail standards), budget, and asset management for tracks, signals, or vehicles, ensuring projects meet deadlines and regulations.
- Proven experience in rail civil, structural, or systems engineering.
- Project management, team leadership, and financial management skills.
- Knowledge of rail standards, safety systems, and design principles.
- Strong communication and client-facing skill
- Prepare Ah-hoc report.
About this position – Standard hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a one (1) hour unpaid lunch break. However, the COTR may request temporary services for periods in excess of a seven and one half (7.5) hour day or a thirty-seven and one-half hour (37.5) hour week. Temporary personnel working six (6) hours or more are required to take a one-half hour unpaid lunch break.
Overtime:
Hours worked in excess of forty (40) hours in one week is considered as overtime work, all overtime must be approved by the COTR in advance.
