Apex Companies is hiring an Environmental Scientist I – Staff Scientist. This is an excellent opportunity for an early‑career professional who wants to gain experience across multiple environmental disciplines. You'll work alongside experienced environmental professionals on projects involving environmental site assessments, soil and groundwater investigations, stormwater compliance, asbestos inspections, and environmental due diligence services.

As an Environmental Scientist I, you'll support a diverse range of environmental consulting projects for both public and private sector clients.

• Conduct field investigations and environmental site assessments (Phase I and Phase II ESAs)
• Collect soil, groundwater, and other environmental samples
• Assist with environmental compliance and due diligence projects
• Support stormwater inspection, maintenance, and repair projects
• Coordinate and oversee subcontractors during drilling and sampling operations
• Assist with asbestos inspections and sampling activities
• Record field observations and maintain accurate project documentation
• Prepare technical reports and support project deliverables
• Work closely with project managers and senior technical staff to support client needs

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Ecology, Biology, or a related field
• 0-2 years of relevant experience
• Strong organizational, communication, and technical writing skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
• Willingness to perform field work in varying weather and site conditions
• Ability to travel locally throughout Virginia and surrounding areas; field work will comprise about 80% of the role
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
